CENTRIFUGE EXTRACTOR ::

This instrument is used for determination and checking of bitumen percentage in bituminous mix, the mix is added with a solvent and dissolved bitumen is removed by centrifugal action. Consists of a removable aluminum rotor bowl, capacity 1500 gms. This shaft and thus the bowl is rotated fast manually by enclosed gears in the cast body and handle. Solvent is introduced during the test through the holes in the cap of the housing. A drain is provided to collect dissolved bitumen coming out of the rotating bowl and getting collected in the housing.

DUCTILITY TESTING APPARATUS ::

In flexible pavement construction, bitumen binders are used. It is important that bituminous material forms ductile thin film around the aggregates, Which serves as a binder. The binder material not of sufficient ductility renderspervious pavement surface and leads to development of cracks. Therefore it is important to carry out the ductility tests on bituminous material. Ductility is defined as distance in cms to which a standard briquette of bitumen can be stretched before the thread breaks. The briquette is stretched at a rate of 50mm/minute ±25mm per minute at a temperature of 27ºC ± 0.5ºC.

Salient Features ::

Specifications : The apparatus consists of a water bath with a thermostatic heater, and a circulating pump to maintain uniform water temperature. One half of the briquette moulds is fixed on a fixed plate in the water bath, the other half of the briquette mould is fixed to a carrier which slides over a rotating threaded shaft with a clutch. The motor and gears to rotate the shaft are housed in a cabinet fixed above the other end of the bath. A pointer fixed to the carrier moves over a scale graduated from 0-110 cm x 1mm fixed on the bath with “0” (zero) of the scale towards the fixed plate side. The rotating shaft has 2 speeds of travel for the bracket, 5cm/min and 1 cm/min., selected by a clutch. Water bath inside is aluminium, it is an insulated water bath. Water bath is provided with a drain. A heater with thermostatic control is fixed inside the water bath. Control switches for motor, stirrer, heater and indicator lamps are fixed at a convenient place on the water bath, complete with three briquette moulds and one base plate, all made of brass. Operates on 230 volts A.C. single phase.

Accessories : 1. Thermometer IP 38 C, range 23ºC to 27ºC. 2. Ductility mould with base-plate.

This apparatus is used to determine softening point of bitumen. Ring and ball apparatus is used to determine softening point. It is that temperature at which a sample of bituminous material loaded by a 9.5mm dia steel ball drops at a distance of 25mm.

Salient Features ::

Specifications : The apparatus consists of steel bracket with a sliding plate support. The support has two holes of 10mm dia on which a Ring and Ball guide can be kept. A central hole on this plate is for inserting thermometer. Supplied with a glass beaker approximate 8.5cm. I.D., 12cm high and a hand stirrer and 2 nos. 9.5mm dia steel balls.

RING AND BALL APPARATUS (ELECTRICAL) :
Same as above but supplied with a thermostatic hot plate. suitable for operation of 230 V A.C.

Accessories : Thermometer IP 60C range 2ºC to 80ºC, Thermometer IP 61C range 30ºC to 300ºC x 5ºC. Electrical Stirrer with stand & blades to gently stir water in the beaker. Suitable for operation on 230V AC

STANDARD PENETROMETER ::

Used to determine grade of bitumen. The penetration tests determine consistency of bitumen for the purpose of grading. Depth in units 1/10 of millimeter to which a standard needle having a standard weight will penetrate vertically in a duration of five seconds at a temperature of 25ºC determines penetration for gradation.

 

Salient Features ::

Specifications : It consists of a vertical pillar mounted on a base provided with levelling screws. The head, together with dial plunger rod and cone (or needle) slides on a pillar and can be clamped at any desired height. A rack & pinion and pointer assemble provides fine adjustment of needle or cone tip to sample. It incorporates a clutch mechanism which makes reading of penetration and subsequent resetting a simple and accurate operation. The dial is graduated in 400 1/10 and the millimeter sub-divisions and the needle pointer against figures makes easy reading. Supplied with bitumen penetration needle, ring weight one each 50 gms, and two sample container.

Accessories : Penetration cone for empirical estimation of penetration of lubricating grease, petroleum jelly etc.

AUTOMATIC STANDARD PENETROMETER :
Same as above but supplied with transistorized timer and Electro magnet incorporated in the clutch mechanism to accurately control penetration time to exact five seconds.

It is an electric cum hand operated for compression tests on concrete specimens up to 20cm dia and 30 cm in height. The machine meets the essential requirements of various Indian, British & American standards for compression tests.
Loading Unit : The hydraulic jack of 2000 kN capacity is fixed to base. The upper platen has got a self aligning action and is attached to a screw which passes through the cross head and can be raised for lowered for initial clearance adjustment. The lower platen rests on the jack ram and is positioned with the help of a centering pin. Loading is accomplished by the upward movement of the lower platen.
Pumping Unit : The motorized pumping unit which is housed in an elegant console is of double plunger type and is driven by 3 phase 440 volts 50 cycles electric motor. The pumping unit is separate unit connected to the jack by means of a steel connecting tube. A junction box is suitably fixed to connect the motor to the mains through a push button starter. The pumping unit is fitted with gauges. A maximum pointer is provided to facilitate taking of the reading after failure of the specimen. The pressure gauges are fixed on the pumping unit at an angle for easy readability.The machine is fitted with a hand wheel control which enables the rate of application of load to be varied. The machine is also equipped with facilities for hand pumping in case of power failure. The electric pumping unit is fixed with a micro-switch off the motor automatically as the load on the machine approaches the rated capacity. Relays are also incorporated in the pumping unit so that in the case of break-down of power supply, the motor will stop and would not-re-start unless starting switch is operated.

Mixing Apparatus

Laboratory Mixer for mixing of Bitumen for making different types of test specimens in the laboratory. The apparatus comprises the following: (I) A motor driven mixer which simultaneously imparts two motions to the mixing paddle i.e. revolving and planetary. A two speed gearbox is incorporated in the drive which makes the paddle revolve at approximately 140 and 285rpm with corresponding planetary motion of 62 and 125rpm respectively. (II) A stainless steel mixing paddle of the specified shape and dimension witch can be attached or removed easily. (III) A stainless steel mixing bowl of about 6Ltr capacity fitted with Heating Jacket for Heating of Sample at the Bottom of bowl with the thermostat controller. The mixing bowl can be held with the mixing apparatus and its height is adjustable. Suitable for operation on 220V, 1Ph, 50Hz AC Supply

 

Planatery Mixer-Morta Mixer ::

It is used for mixing cement pastes, mortars and pozzolanas.

Sailent Features ::

Specifications : The apparatus consists of an epicyclic type stainless steel paddle imparting both planetary and revolving motion, by means of gears. It has two speeds of 140 + 5 r.p.m. and 285 + 10 r.p.m. with planetary motions of approximately 62 r.p.m. + 5 r.p.m. and 125 r.p.m.+/-10 r.p.m. respectively. The stand of the mixer has arrangement to raise or lower the bowl. Complete with stainless steel bowl of about six litres capacity. Suitable for operation on 230 volts, 50 cycles, single phase, A.C.supply.

 

 

BABY MIXER(Half Bug Capacity) ::

Concrete mixer laboratory type, electrically operated. Designed to remove the burden- some work of hand mixing. Uniform thoroughly mixed batches can be produced. The counter balanced drum is easy to tilt 1.1/2 to 2cu.ft.mix. The total drum volume is however 3cu.ft. Mounted on a sturdy rubber tyred stand, and the drum is mounted for end discharge and equipped with end towing pole. Equipped with ½ h.p. electric motor. AUTOMATIC COMPACTOR Machine :: It is a motor driven mechanical compactor useful for soil compaction into 100 mm or 150 mm diameter moulds. Two sets of rammers are provided, one of 2.6 and arranged for 310 mm. drop and other 4.9 kg and arranged for 450 mm fall. for comaction soil into 150 mm dia moulds, 100 mm face dia rammers having weight 2.6 kg and 489 kg are used. Where as for 100 mm dia moulds they are of 50 mm dia. The rammer assembly is provided with a ratched and pawl arrangement to lift it from the top of the soil layer. When the rammer reaches the required height the pawl release the rammer which falls freely on soil surface. The release mechanism is operated by an arm moving up and down which is connected to a reduction gear coupled to the motor through another arm. An automatic blow counter fitted to the compactor is used to set the number of blows. The base plate of the specimen mould is to be fitted to the rotating base plate of the instrument which makes 1/5th revolution per stroke. The equipment is suitable for operation on 230 volts, 50 cycles, single phase, A.C. supply. Mould are to be ordered separately.
